A restaurant where industrial heritage meets contemporary cuisine

Housed inside a beautifully restored former leather tannery, Somiatruites has become one of the defining culinary destinations of Igualada. Designed by architect Xavier Andrés, the building was expanded in 2019 with a sustainable boutique hotel, reinforcing the project’s connection between hospitality, architecture and gastronomy.

In the kitchen, David Andrés, whose career includes acclaimed restaurants such as ABaC and Via Veneto, works alongside Zhou Mengxin to create a menu rooted in seasonal produce and Mediterranean traditions. An organic rooftop kitchen garden supplies herbs and vegetables used throughout the year, further strengthening the restaurant’s sustainable philosophy.

The restaurant has been recognised with both the Michelin Bib Gourmand and the Michelin Green Star, acknowledging not only the quality of its cooking but also its long-term commitment to environmentally responsible gastronomy.

Catalan traditions with contemporary flair

The menu draws inspiration from Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine, introducing subtle Asian influences without losing its regional identity. Signature dishes include seasonal rice dishes, handcrafted croquettes and traditional Catalan cannelloni, each prepared with modern precision while respecting familiar flavours.

Among the restaurant’s best-known creations is the Somiatruites Fried Egg, a playful trompe-l’œil dessert that transforms cheesecake into an astonishingly realistic fried egg. It perfectly reflects the restaurant’s approach: technically accomplished, visually engaging and never disconnected from flavour.

Throughout the menu, fresh ingredients, balanced compositions and restrained presentation allow the quality of the produce to remain at the centre of every dish.

Discovering the flavours of Igualada’s Rec district

The dining room preserves much of the building’s industrial character while offering a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Guests can choose between a weekday lunch menu and an à la carte selection designed for both casual sharing and longer dining experiences.

A carefully curated wine list, featuring producers from across Catalonia, complements the menu and reinforces the restaurant’s connection to its surroundings.

🍽️ For travellers exploring inland Catalonia, Somiatruites offers far more than a meal. It is an opportunity to experience the transformation of Igualada’s historic Rec district, where industrial heritage, contemporary architecture and modern Catalan cuisine come together in a single destination.

Bon appétit ☺️ !
