Nomad Coffee: Among the Best Coffees in the World
From a London cart to the global coffee podium
Jordi Mestre returned from London with a cart and a wealth of knowledge. Twelve years later, Nomad Coffee boasts the number one coffee shop in Spain and the sixteenth best in the world. The story remains the same: an obsession with the perfect bean.
One founder, two victories, and a map full of pins

Jordi Mestre is from Barcelona, but he trained as a barista in London. Two seasons immersed in Europe’s finest coffee scene were enough for him to realize that specialty coffee was a serious, demanding discipline that was often overlooked back home.
National Barista Champion in 2012 and 2013, and Spain’s representative at the World Championships in Melbourne, Mestre returned to Barcelona in 2014 alongside Fran González —now a partner and head of roasting— to open the first Nomad Coffee Lab & Shop. The venue was minimalist to the point of austerity: nothing was allowed to distract from what was in the cup. Barcelona, which at the time was almost entirely unfamiliar with specialty coffee, met the proposal with growing curiosity.
Beans from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Colombia selected at the source
Nomad doesn’t just buy coffee: they hand-pick it. The team travels to producing countries, establishing long-term relationships with farmers and importers, and selecting varieties for their intrinsic qualities —acidity, sweetness, aromatic complexity— before roasting them at their Poblenou roastery.
The result is a catalog of references that reads like a sensory map: the Ethiopian Hambela reaches the cup with notes of cacao nibs and cherry; the Kenyan Kathima explodes with yuzu and yellow kiwi; the Colombian Ají Las Flores tastes of muscat grape and cocoa butter. All are available as whole beans or ground, for filter or espresso, with limited editions that turn every order into a signature choice.
Frutas Selectas: Spain’s best coffee shop is in Poblenou
The establishment at Carrer de Pujades, 95, has entered The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list for 2026 at rank 16, establishing itself as the number one in Spain.
This success is no accident: Frutas Selectas operates with the precision of an artisan workshop —baristas trained at their own Coffee Academy, extraction controlled to the millimeter, and a selection of beans that changes with the harvests. It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For those who cannot visit in person, Nomad offers home subscriptions and free shipping to Spain and Portugal for orders over €30. Nomadic coffee has finally reached every table.
Enjoy☺️!
