Market cuisine and family heritage in el Raval

The Molleví legacy returns with a classic recipe book approach

Slow-cooked stews and charcoal grilling in a restored Art Nouveau setting

A contemporary ‘casa de comidas’ prioritizing local produce

Casa de Comidas Buenavista recovers the essence of the iconic 1918 establishment through the vision of the family’s fourth generation. The project commits to honest cooking that avoids artifice, focusing on Catalan recipes and local ingredients from Mercat de Sant Antoni to deliver a solid and coherent dining experience.

Returning to the essence of Catalan recipes

Led by brothers Alex and Guille Molleví, this project moves away from fleeting trends to focus on generational continuity. Located on the ground floor of the Antiga Casa Buenavista hotel, the restaurant acts as a bridge between the neighborhood’s popular past and modern sophistication.

This is not a place for culinary pyrotechnics; it is for those who value market cuisine executed with journalistic precision: informing through the plate about what the season provides. The recommendation is clear: it is worth visiting for its ability to keep the memory of Barcelona’s traditional dining houses alive without falling into empty nostalgia. The menu stands on simplicity and authenticity—pillars that define a space where flavor prevails over aesthetics, even as the room’s design provides a discreet elegance.

Traditional stews and technical precision on the grill

The menu is a statement of intent favoring local sourcing and precise technique.

Standout dishes include time-honored classics such as fricandó (veal stew), capipota, and farmhouse chicken with crayfish. These are clean executions, devoid of unnecessary twists, where the local supplier is the true protagonist. The use of the Josper oven adds a smoky nuance to meats and fish, bringing a contemporary layer to an otherwise strictly academic proposal. Rice dishes and stews set the kitchen’s pace, proving that real luxury lies in the quality of the raw materials selected at Mercat de Sant Antoni. The commitment to sustainability is notable—not as a marketing slogan, but as a mechanical practice in waste management and support for the neighborhood’s circular economy.

A shared space for design and tradition

The environment at Casa de Comidas Buenavista is an exercise in heritage restoration that avoids pretentious luxury.

Original Catalan vaults and hydraulic floor tiles coexist with functional furniture and warm lighting that invites long conversations. It is a versatile space, suitable for both a gourmet breakfast and a business lunch seeking discretion and flow. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, an essential asset for an establishment looking to distance itself from foodie hype and focus on diners who know what they are eating. The wine selection, focusing almost exclusively on Catalan wineries, reinforces the project’s territorial identity. It is the place to go when seeking the reliability of a great stew in a cosmopolitan atmosphere that remains rooted in the city center.
Enjoy ☺️ !
